How does attachment tracking work?
Within each attachment, we have placed a specially crafted image which will attempt to open if an employee clicks on "Enable Editing". Once opened, the image attempts to load using a URL which points to an API we manage. Using this, we're able to identify which user opened the document and which campaign the activity is associated with. An example of this is seen below:
How do you include attachments in emails?
Simply open the email template you'd like to include an attachment in, and select to upload an attachment using the functionality shown below. Once the template is saved, this attachment will be included in any simulated phishing emails.
Can I change the filename of the attachment?
Yes - By default, the base documents used for the attachements will be renamed to the name of the phishing template they are being used in. At the time of email delivery we perform a check to see if the attachment contains the word "CanIPhish" in the filename. If it does, we then rename it to the name of the email template. If it doesn't contain this keyword, then we will leave the filename in its original form. So, to use a different filename, simply change the filename, ensuring it does not include the word "CanIPhish"
Can I change the content within each attachment?
Yes, certainly! The PowerPoint and Excel documents can be modified easily, however please ensure the tracking image is unaltered. The Word document can be altered but care needs to be taken to ensure the tracking image remains unaltered. If altering the Word document please follow the below steps:
Step 1. Download the .docx Word document from the top of this support article.
Step 2. Open the document and click the "Enable Editing" banner in Microsoft Word:
Step 3. Press Alt + F9 to toggle and show the Field Code display view in Word. You will notice, the little tracking image is now replaced with a short string (technically called a field code):
Step 4. Make any required modifications, but make sure this field code remains intact. Additionally, if inserting any additional images, ensure they are after this field code.
Step 5. Once all changes have been applied, press Alt + F9 to toggle out of the Field Code display view and go back to the Live display view.
Step 6. Save the document and ensure the filetype remains as a .docx. Then upload it to your preferred email template as an attachment! You're all done :)
